Ashley, DJ, and I had so much fun playing in the snow at their couples session in the Sawtooth Mountains! After a full day of skiing with some of the von Heyking clan at Bogus Basin, I quickly shifted gears, changed into some comfy clothes, and met up with Ashley and DJ to do their couples session. I met them in the parking lot at Stack Rock and then we hiked in to do their photos- I’m going, to be honest here and tell you we definitely didn’t make it to the actual Stack Rock- we barely even ventured further than the parking lot. When we started hiking in we realized that the snow was 2-3 ft deep in some places (just look at how snow-covered Ashley and DJ’s pants are in some of the photos), so we adjusted our plan of hiking up to the rock and instead played around in the snow and ventured into the trees a little bit. As a North Carolinian I thought I was prepared for shooting in serious snow and while we did last close to an hour once I started shooting, I quickly realized that all of our “cute,” winter clothes just weren’t made for real Idaho snow, but we made the best of things and still enjoyed ourselves. Ashley and DJ were freshly married when we did their shoot and they definitely brought that playful newlywed energy to their session. One of my favorite things to do when Stephen and I travel to different places is to do always at least one shoot in the new to me location- I always find so much fresh inspiration from shooting in different scenery and weather conditions and I definitely was feeling the new location buzz when I shot these photos! Since winter is now winding down, I wanted to cap things off with sharing this fun snowy session below.
