Years ago when I was first starting out with shooting weddings, I second shot a wedding where the couple performed a Chinese Tea Ceremony on the day of their wedding. I immediately fell in love with the beautiful tradition and meaning behind it and jumped at the chance to photograph one again. When Kelsey and Ryan first started talking with me about their wedding weekend in Asheville, they mentioned that they were wanting to do a Chinese Tea Ceremony at their rehearsal dinner venue, The Ridge, to honor Ryan’s family heritage. Because I wanted to know more about The Tea Ceremony and what it represents, I did some further research and found, it is a sacred time where the bride and groom serve tea to their parents, in-laws, and other family members. It is a time that symbolizes the joining together of the two families and where the bride and groom show respect and gratitude to their elders. Kelsey and Ryan chose to have their tea ceremony outside surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and it was incredibly picturesque. I feel honored that I got to capture these very special moments for them at their beautiful Tea Ceremony.
